Nostalgia 46: Scrap Book

I found this old photo of my daughter's project, a scrap book, while she was a freshman at school. These are some of the pages I'm sharing here. I'm posting it here so I can keep a copy of it for Nostalgia.

New Bedding

My blood pressure shoot up above normal last night. Our pet who already knew some house rules accidentally peed in our comforter and it goes down to our bed foam. I immediately washed and disinfected the corner side of the foam of our bed and blow dried. I was really mad having a hard time communicating to our pet and letting him understand not to pee again. He has been with us for over two years now and this was the first time he violated the house rules. I felt that he was scared of me. I can read in his eyes that he's asking for forgiveness, but no! He is now grounded and will stay inside the dog crib for a day or two until he learned that what he did was something foul and against my rule. I wonder why he found our bed to good for peeing. Or maybe it's an indication that I should purchase new bedding now. I've been wanting to buy allergy bedding to give us maximum comfort. I didn't get enough sleep last night. We slept in a hard mat and woke up with a stiff and aching body.

RT: Sesame Kid Street Ako

Are you a Sesame Street Kid? I am not but I am supporting this campaign. I bought this Sesame Street Kid Ako (I am a Sesame Street Kid) the other week. Recently, the producers behind Sesame Street Show and Rico Blanco launched a new education campaign called Sesame Street Kid Ako to encourage young children to learn at an early age.

It's a fun way of learning with Elmo and Cookie Monster to join the education campaign. The ambassador of the project, Rico Blanco, is a Sesame Street Kid and he considered it as a blessing to be part of the project. For him, the campaign is a great chance to help and share the love of learning to the young minds/children.

At Coffee Shop

I had a meeting with a blogger friend few weeks ago in one coffee restaurant. As a coffee addict, I chose a coffee restaurant with quiet environment as the venue of meeting. Today, I think coffee restaurant businesses are booming and new branches pop up like mushroom in different key places around the Metro. I am amazed by the set up of all coffee shops to attract customers. What I noticed is that, they lack the modern facilities for them to stand up amongst competitors. What's missing in most of the coffee shops I visited are modern coffee tables to go with the restaurant. It will surely look very homey if they choose a customized table that the customer would feel very relaxed while having a cup of coffee. Most of the customers also want a shop with strong wifi connection so they can still work and they can keep themselves updated online too.

Loving Men's T-shirt

My daughter is loving men's character shirt while I love some girl-y stuffs. These are the shirts that she bought the last time we went out malling. She's starting to collect clothing of this kind.

She Wants to Become a Nurse!

Photo of my daughter in Biology Lab

I can't believe how my daughter performed in her laboratory class. She was thrilled yet very excited in dissecting a frog last week. I thought she was scared doing it because when she was young she always told me that she wants to become a nurse someday but the thought of dissecting specimen stops her to dream of becoming a nurse. Her determination overcame her fear in their recent laboratory activities. She wants to take medical related course someday and pursue bsn online. I am glad that she's already thinking about her career someday. I saw her browsing the internet about the course that is in demand in the future. Look how time flies! She is an incoming third year student this school year and before I know it, she already is taking up bsn online. Her two cousins who are taking medical related courses, BS Physical Therapy and BS Psychology, are just one of the factors that influenced her in choosing her future career .

Beyond Earth Hour

We joined Earth Hour last night, not in MOA but at home. In previous years, we also participated in Earth Hour. During and beyond, we live by message of Earth Hour by switching off lights when we don't need it. I always remind my children about the cause and what we can do to contribute and save Mother Earth. Switching lights off will surely go far. We enjoyed our family time moment and switched off all the appliances last night. I hope we can do it more often. My younger daughter played some tricks through candle shadow.

Daughter supports Earth Hour. I heart Earth Hour, I heart Mother Earth.

How to Destress Yourself

When I was still working in a marketing company, I've witnessed how employees deal with the stress in this kind of job. They work from nine to five but extends working until eight o'clock. Of course, they were paid for the over time but the level of stress made them less focus the following day. It was a usual scene, running here and there to beat the deadlines. Friday night was the only time they proclaimed as a destressing night. Spending night with fabulous wines, la flor dominicana cigars, live bands are usual delights. I cannot blame those people relaxing that way for it could lead them to a certain disease should they let the stress eats their heart away. Today, most people destress themselves by online games. Some people play games via social networking site, tweeting and other form of online activities. Going out once in a while is good. Humor, laughter and sleep are the best ways to destress.

Do you know that little stress is also good for the heart? It gives you a chance to keep your mind alert as it beats and works faster to its peak. If you work in your PC or laptop the whole day, try to de-stress by closing your eyes in a while, sit upright and relax.

Going Gaga over Espadrille

1. Franco Sarto Comedy Espadrille –
2. Nine West Topaza Peep Toe Espadrille
3. Stuart Weitzman Bendit Espadrille

Saw this in the internet while browsing for espadrille wedge sandals. I saw the same red espadrille in the mall the other week but my size was not available. It looks almost like the #1 photo. I wish I can have it all. The discounted price is $70.90. I cannot afford the price but I'll look for the same style in the mall. I'll wear them with jeans and loose shirt with oversized sunglasses this summer.

Fine Dining Restaurant

We had our dinner two weeks ago in one of the local restaurants nearby. Their specialties are roasted chicken and hainanese chicken rice. It's already a habit for us to take photo before having our meal. The pendant lighting just above our dining table gives a very good photograph effect aside from the romantic dining ambiance that distinctively contributes to the restaurant. The next time we dine in to the restaurant, I will not just take photo of our food but ourselves too. We are not a photo addict. We just simply love the radiant effect that the lights create. We only have a fluorescent light in our dining room and sometimes wish for a dim light but it is hurting our eyes. Tonight is an exception. We will be using candle light to participate in an earth hour.

Earth Hour

It's a mall-free weekend for us! Yay! That means I can do my task offline. When I say offline, it's a household task. I hear my younger daughter asking, "mom, are we not going to MOA to join Earth Hour?" We can join Earth Hour and be aware of the cause by simply switching off the lights not just today but everyday or maybe lifetime to save lights. That few minutes or an hour turning off all appliances will surely make a big difference to save the earth. I hope that many people will participate tonight, March 26, 2011, between 8:30 to 9:30pm. Make a buzz. We support Earth Hour! Lights off tonight!

Ten Pounds Less

For those who have seen my unedited photo in a fitted top, I have nothing to blame but myself who love wearing small size when in fact I fit to large one or maybe extra large shirt. Sure, I look funny not because I am fat but because I always blog about following my diet plan seriously. Eating more fruits will balance my diet. Did I say I have been taking slimming tea for a couple of years already. Well, it didn't do anything for me. I should have taken an african mango instead. It is not too bad to weigh myself ten pounds less in a year. Pills, tea and diet never really work for me.

Nostalgia 45: Long Playing

Have you heard about the old joke, "here you are again, long playing?" They are actually referring to a nagging wife. A Long Playing is an analog album in forty-ish.

I can see husband surprisingly reading this post. He maybe has forgotten about these LPs. These are not mine, but my FIL's. Ondoy hit our house, drowned and flashed most of our things but look how I kept the real treasure. This is the only LP I can show to my kids how LP looks like in 1940s. Hey, please, I am not that old. I am not a 40-ish baby but 70s. I just had these and kept these as I believe these were already a collector's item and needed to be displayed in a National Museum. Today, as I decluttered the house and saw these again in the old cabinet, I can't help but remember songs of the past, not my generation but my parents too. This LP serves as a great remembrance for new generations. Sure they can google it and see photos but not the same thing as seeing the real LP. I got hundreds of reasons why I had to keep this.

Want to hear the songs in the album? My apology for not granting the request. I cannot even play this in YouTube. I don't have a phonograph or record player to play this along but I can hear vividly in my imagination how it sounded then.

Here are the details about Long Playing Album I googled for you:

Media type: Audio playback
Encoding: Analog grooves
Capacity: Up to 25 minutes per side;
2 sides, for a total playing time of anywhere from 45 to 50 minutes
Read: mechanism Stylus
Dimensions: 12 in (30 cm); 10 in (25 cm)
Weight: 90-200 grams
Usage Audio storage
Extended from 1948

Long-playing (LP) record albums are 33⅓ rpm, typically vinyl, gramophone records (phonograph records), generally either 10 or 12 inches in diameter. They were introduced unsuccessfully by RCA in 1931 and successfully by Columbia in 1948, and served as a primary release format for recorded music the second being with extended play or EP albums. In the 1980s the cassette began to significantly displace them, followed by the compact disc in the 1990s and the MiniDisc. In the 21st century, a renewed interest in vinyl has occurred and the demand for the medium has been on a steady increase yearly in niche markets. The long-playing record is an analog format. source: (Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Shall I Give In?

Daughter slept late last night to prepare for final exam week. I have never seen her staying so late like this. Ah yes, maybe at social networking site but not in academic subjects. Last night was unusual. She stayed as late as two o'clock in the morning. She's confident that she will perform well in her exams. I am glad that she studied a little harder. She doesn't want to disappoint me nor her dad. Did I just hear, "mom buy iphone for me, I got a superior grade in my card." She has been using her old cell phone now and complaining already of slow loading. So, shall I give in to this protest? Oh well, I don't have any reason now not to give in to her pleadings. She's almost sure that she'd make it to the exam and even hopes that she belongs to top ten percent of the highest rank in the class.

Short Vacation

If you were given only two days to take a vacation, how will you spend your trip to make it worthy and memorable? Many people want to have a longer vacation but if they're given only two days, they squeeze the time, create a plan and take a side trip to make it more memorable. A fun side trip driving to an island, a short stroll at the beach could even make it complete. The coolest for me is spending vacation in the midst of the rural community or a log cabin holiday. If you pass by in Tagaytay, you probably have seen lodges and apartment for rent. The rate is quite low compare to hotel rate in the city. This way, you'll be able to spend a vacation for a very minimal budget. A side trip to Taal Volcano for a boat ride could be a great pleasure too.

Watery Wednesday: Fountain

As you can see the mall shoppers and the bridge over fountain, this pathway connects the two giant malls, Trinoma and SM City North. The fountain just caught the attention of my daughter. We hopped from one mall to another last Sunday. :)

Holiday Break

What are you up to this summer? I guess everyone is now gearing up for summer and planning how and where to spend their vacation. I started browsing travel pages, looking for the most affordable package but worth to stay. We're planning to spend for at least two or three days up north. I want to stay in a hotel or maybe inquire for a Villa holiday like vacation or even just similar to this package at this early time. I guess this is the ideal holiday break for my children. They want to stay just anywhere else as long as they're out from the noise of the city.

Ruby Tuesday: Red Cross

I'm glad that taking pictures inside the mall is allowed. My daughter took this last weekend while we were at the counter waiting for our turn.

Reusable Barrels

The family of my old friend in college from southernmost part of the country is producing wine out of coconut and plum fruits as their business. They used oak barrels for coconut wine and only reusable bottle for plum wine enough for five gallons. It takes several months for fermentation and aging before they finally sell those wines. They only rely in the old way of preparing wine and stick to what they believed in to make a perfect wine. Now I wonder if they still use the oak or stainless steel barrels at this time. I hope they are already aware of the advantages of using stainless steel over oak. Stainless steel is reusable, durable and can be used for longer time. Besides, using stainless steel will not affect the taste and quality and will retain the flavor of wine.

Btw, I just posted an update in social networking site about how we can save our planet earth and the need to fight global warming. Don't you think we can help save our mother earth by using stainless steel instead of cutting down more trees for oak barrels?

New Eyeglasses

My two daughters had their eye check up yesterday. Both have been wearing eyeglasses for maybe 6 years now. My younger daughter oftentimes neglects to wear her eyeglasses because she believes that she doesn't need it at all as she can read well without it. I told the optometrist about it and warned not to miss wearing eyeglasses so to correct her vision. My older daughter, with 325 and 200 for the left retained the vision.

The best way to take care of our eyes:
* do not overly tire our eyes
* have enough sleep
* eat healthy food that's good for the eyes.

The Right Sensor

Some monitoring work needs liquid level sensors to detect levels of specific limit of liquid. Some point of level sensors trigger alarm when it reaches the limit needed. Other liquid sensing can be detected by methods like pressure, vibration and ultrasound. With pressure sensor, it measures pressure by creating signal as a indication that it has already expanded. What do you consider in choosing sensory level? For some, they consider the media type in choosing sensor. Selecting the right sensor can also be critical, thus a further study on what sensor to use should be done first prior to the project.

Today's Image

I took this shot while my daughter was playing with her pet this afternoon. Earlier, she walked around the house with her pet comfortably seated in a stroller. She smiled for this picture, unfortunately Majic was too busy and not in the mood to face the camera.

Party at Villa Suite

Last Friday, we surprised a blogger friend for a Pajama Party. The party was actually a get together party before our friend leaves the country. It was held in one of the finest hotels in the city suitable for family vacation, with living and dining area, two queen-sized beds, two toilets and bath and are provided with other amenities. The villa suite is very spacious with beautiful modern furniture. The hotel owner must be very good in choosing a set of furniture. I wonder if the living set is made of designer upholstery fabric because it looks very elegant. I actually took several photos as a souvenir. Anyways, they were still enjoying chat and wine when I left the place. I want to stay a little longer in the hotel but I was not at ease because I was worried that my children were waiting for me back home.

Little Asia

My two daughters were requesting to visit the replica of Piazza San Marco Venice. The Little Asia replica is quite far from our place but if my kids insisted, we might go there this weekend. It will take us about an hour to get to the mall. I've been there twice and have witnessed its fabulous view during night time. If ever we go there by daytime, I think my kids will not totally enjoy the place as it is perfect only for shoppers and diners who love the nightlife. Italian like restaurants are all over the place. When I visited the said mall many months ago, I can't help but be amazed. The ambiance will take your imagination to Europe as if you're in the place, dining, shopping and spending canal holidays. The staff in the restaurant told me that construction of real canal will soon start. I felt excited of course and I promise to feature here once the gondola replica is finished.

National Procrastination Week?

I read this from Occasions of Joy's blog about National Procrastination Week. At first, I thought it was a silly joke but when I searched for it, I found out that this week is being celebrated for procrastination between March 7 -13. This is funny but I love it. Or can I say, I, of course can procrastinate things that can really wait. Don't you think this gives justification to those who love procrastinating? Another thing to celebrate with the same week is National Sleep Awareness Week. I had a good sleep this afternoon but I don't think it has something with the celebration. Haha.

Don't actually start celebrating until like March 13 of 11 p.m. It might be too late for you to do a good job. I have bills to pay, things to organize, tasks to finish, and it's now heavily loaded in my mind.. Aah, this is the fruit of procrastination.

what keeps them warm

The weather is unpredictable. In other parts of the world, many people are enjoying the season and still hoping that winter extends this year. They don't worry much no matter how cold it gets with a Patio Heater that keep them warm. They are enjoying outdoor living in a large garden or a patio. I am not thinking of buying this as we only have two season here in our place. This heater is easy to use and very affordable but definitely not necessary thing to buy for we live in a place where summer seems to experience 365 days in a year. Should I only live in highland where people experience cold season throughout the year, then buying this will be on top of my list.

International Women's Day!

In celebration of International Women's Day, an Independent Film "Ganap na Babae" had its special screening at UP Diliman Film Center last night. It was a privilege for me to watch a movie like this that tackles different issues of women.

Ganap na BABAE is directed by women directors namely Rica Arevalo, Ellen Ramos and Sarah Roxas. This is a trilogy about three women in different roles; a prostitute, two sisters, and a widow.

In "Ina" episode, a woman (Mercedes Cabral) shares her soul as a prostitute in front of the camera. A survivor, she looks back at her life as a mother. Milagros (Sue Prado) and Elena (Jam Pérez) "Kapatid" are sisters tilling camote (sweet potato) in a dry land. Poverty provokes Elena to migrate as a mail-order bride in Japan while Milagros stays to take care of the family. Eos (Boots Anson Roa) in "Kaibigan" is a widow who falls in love with a younger man, Rodrigo (Rome Mallari). They try to make the relationship work amidst the pressure of their family and the society. Happy International Women's Day!

New Flooring

I was supposed to post a picture of the ongoing construction of the three-story building near to our house but I did not see the owner today to ask permission in doing so. As seen from my place, the entire floor of the building is not done yet. I would like to suggest a flooring that needs only low maintenance and they could get it in a lower price since discount laminate flooring is available online. I assume they already had a concrete plan literally as to what materials they intend to use. Nevertheless, I would still suggest a laminated flooring should I get the chance to talk with the owner. If only I could replace our tiled flooring, I would. I cannot change the flooring of our house since we are only renting and we are not allowed to do any repair inside, not even change the color of the wall.

IT Services

I have worked in an IT company many years ago and got a few knowledge on how IT services work in a business. Most of the clients that we had came from companies who needed an IT skills for their employees. Almost all of the offices now entirely based around computers and IT. If you are skilled in it, you have all the advantages to work or possibly work in a company like Washington DC IT Services. The wonders of IT in a business are widely acknowledge these days. Gone are the days when you have to file a numerous number of data in a cabinet. That's one of the wonders of IT.

Many companies now hire IT professionals to provide them good IT training or just to make it easier for the staff to understand the basic IT procedures. Other IT company that offer such is Richmond IT Services. They deliver the expert for their IT needs like messaging, networking, disaster recovery program and other applications needed for the company. In today's world, a proficient IT knowledge is a big advantage that will take you on top of the business.

Cheers!

I have posted in my previous entry a short "Bon Voyage" post for Jes, a blogger friend who's about to begin a new life in the US. Well, it didn't end there as I have yet to post another one. Last Friday, we surprised her with a Pajama Party organized by Joy, our joyful mom. Lyn, Bedai, Jenny, Pehpot, Fehdz, Techa, Jingke, Joy and myself prepared a little something and gave our best wishes for her. It was a fun filled afternoon with laughter. Full details to be posted in my other blog. More photos posted in my FB account.

eFile with Tax Preparation Software

I'm glad that everything now is made easy including tax preparation. I had a hard time understanding on how to file tax before. I was not confident at all with the accuracy of my returns. Now there is a smart way of filing tax with the help of tax preparation software. I just recommended it to a friend who works abroad and looking forward for a bigger income tax return this year. I am confident she'll get what is due to her. She can have it online with all the staff to assist her. I could only dream of having this when I needed to file a tax return myself. I admit, numbers are the hardest thing for me. With e-file, tax filing is now easier and faster and not only that, it is guaranteed accurate without having to worry at all. The staffs are available online or you can even chat with them for full info and details on tax preparation. How smart could it be in filling tax these days!

The following is a guest post from my daughter:

Dear Daddy,

How are you? I hope you're doing fine? By the way, I asked mom if I could be a guest blogger here and she said yes. I am not writing here because I want to ask something or a reward for achieving good grades at school. I believe having a good grade at school is already a reward for me. I just want to say thank you for all the good things you are providing us.

By the way, we're doing fine here. Take care always.

Handling Equipment

Do you know where to buy Pumps, Generators and other related parts and accessories? Sure you can browse them easily in the web, but make sure to find only the leading brand for this equipment. For bigger industries like chemical or refining companies, a Fluid Handling Equipment is installed only by an expert and testified by a customer who has been satisfied with the product having the same kind of business.

Likewise, Pumps for Power Generation should also be bought based on the recommendation of an old customer or find an engineer to do the purchase in your behalf. There are standard specifications to follow like the range and flow capacity. Trust only the expert that provides cost effective solutions for all your handling equipments. Small pumps even at home can cause a big problem should overload condition arises. At any point, purchasing handling equipment, pumps and generators should always be within its application range. It is also safe to have a word of mouth from a satisfied customer.

Wanting for this Shoes

My daughter spotted this pair of shoes at Shangrila when we visited the mall last week. She's been asking her dad to buy this one and sent already an email with the copy, picture and URL of exactly this brand. Now, I am posting this here as she requested just so her dad would find no way of saying no of not getting the email. He browses the page from time to time.

Trendy Nursing Uniforms

Today, medical professionals have become trendy with their new uniform style. These new uniforms help not only for the nurses but for the patients as well. Colorful uniforms bring out a happy look that is needed for such environment like hospital. It is always good to be trendy but medical professionals should not compromise the comfort of having this kind of uniform. This kind of work needs comfortable nursing uniforms to be able to move around easily.

Aside from the comfort, the material and fabric should also be considered because nurses work in a long shift. They should be able to stand on the go even during graveyard shift. Wearing a flexible uniform will give them enough breather. If you are a nurse and you want custom made scrubs, you should provide description of fabric, size, color and style. This way you can be sure of having a uniform that exactly fits your needs. The uniform should also be flexible enough for you to move around the ward.

You can order uniform for nurses online with exact description. Simply browse the uniform that you want. Nurses can be trendy too even while at work. Uniform matters a lot in everyday duty, both ways, efficient and fashionable nurses. Gone are the days when all medical professionals are required to wear only white uniform. Don't you think those were such a boring style?

Nostalgia 42: Reunion at Tagaytay

The mug and picture below are souvenir items we got from cable ride adventure in Tagaytay Zipline. We totally enjoyed the mini reunion 25 years after. I need to keep this mug in a safe place since our photos were pasted/printed (whatever). We waited for 45 minutes to have it done. Hihi. Nice souvenir eh!

Fascinated with Tights!

I am fond of browsing fashion and lifestyle websites and seeing models in their good sense of fashion. Imagine a pair of leggings teamed with silvery top and accessories. This outfit would surely compliment your looks. I am not sure about the stars named to be worst dressed. I could only say for best dressed and they are the ones wearing polka dot or flower printed skirts and jackets with matching House of Holland tights. Prints, plain or even checkered go well with tights. These all, I have learned in one event of afternoon of style. For a simple and fashion challenged mom like me, picking tights is the easiest. Everyone can be gorgeous. It depends on how we carry ourselves. We can always accessorize ourselves but always remember that less is better in fashion.

Treat yourself with a fancy mock suspenders. These are great collections to be included in your wardrobe, also best for fall season. Aren't you fascinated with Hollywood stars or celebrities wearing tights? I am now looking forward for a tights fashion show on TV or online for more tips. For ladies, shop for the tights that you want for you'll never know as to when this will last. I also suggest that if you're not sure or in doubt of your fashion, simply wear tights with confidence and choose only with dark color if you are to wear a bland blazer. But also remember that not everything you discover for matching colored tights tips are appropriate for you because we have our own looks to match uniquely. The season also can vary. You can wear colored tights or any bright shade for warm season or summer.

Bon Voyage my Friend

Blogger friend Jes will be leaving very soon. She's my companion in most of the events I have attended. Yesterday, I met her up at Shangrila as she had an appointment with Clarity for her Diamond Peel. We still have two events lined up before she heads a new life in US, one in premier movie screening and the other one for a grand night show. We just thought these two events are worth attending for. :)

To you friend, I only wish you and your family a happy and blessed life in new home! Have a happy and safe trip!

Never mind about how the pics were taken. I like it this way.

“All of life is a journey which paths we take, what we look back on, and what we look forward to is up to us. We determine our destination, what kind of road we will take to get there, and how happy we are when we get there.”

Best Gift for Mother's Day

Mothers deserve only the best gift not only on special occasions but also when you feel like pampering her or giving her a special gift even with no occasions at all. Shower her with love and give her only the Unique Mothers Day Gifts. Choosing a gift can be time consuming because we only want what's best for our moms. I know exactly what my mother wanted had she only lived longer. Surely I would pick the best jewelry for she really loved it. It is important that you know what your moms are exactly looking for. It is also best if you compare what you think she will pick assuming she's with you buying a gift. A jewelry, teapot, hairdryer, beauty kit, matchbox, personalized champagne or just a simple dress could be a good choice. Perfect gift can be defined well depending on her mood and her age. There are hundreds of gifts to choose from. Shopping ahead of time is important where you can choose the best gift without pressuring yourself and rushing to buy only what is available.

I can only wish that my mother is here with us for she truly deserved only the best. Mothers appreciate what their children give. I should know for I am a mother too. Mothers appreciate a gift that they don't have to buy themselves anymore. Say for example, appliance in the house. That gift goes well for a practical mother. If you found out that her microwave oven was already broken and thought that buying her a new one would make her happy, then go and buy it for her. Most moms are happy for small things, like lotion, perfume or a gift check. Whatever it is, it is just right to give what's best for your mother with so much love to make it even more special.
