Well done, Congratulations!

My daughter can now finally  sit down  on her  back and relax    after   two weeks  of   worries  and uncertainties  waiting  till the day of   their presentation, entitled,  "re: ROBOTICS."   Her group  presented  the  thesis oral defense well.   They  were even told  by  the  panelists  to have their group's  remote controlled cleaning robot   included in an exhibit!    Wow!   All  their efforts were  paid off,   including me,  preparing their mind and   body   (literally,  tummy  full)   in good condition  for the  presentation.   (giving myself a full credit here! :)    They  worked  hard  for the robot  for  nine  months  and  spent  one  whole  sleepless  night   before the  scheduled  presentation   for  the defense.

After that Saturday afternoon of  half and hour  nerve-wracking defense,  my daughter called me home  and told me about the good news.  She passed the oral defense and  got  the passport  for  graduation.  Luck  isn't  fit to describe the output,  it was hard work and perseverance.  Now,  here comes graduation,  marching on the stage  with head  up high   after  four years of  dedication and persistence.  Another milestone  in her  life is just about  to finish  and a new beginning is about start,  college.   Once again,  Congratulations  and  Good luck!

My daughter together with her group (at the back)  for photo op with the panelists.  The group left the defense room on cloud  nine  that day!

Ondoy-like rains

Did I read it right? I was just browsing the net and found this in the news. Storm Megi to hit Cagayan Valley, may bring Ondoy-like rains? source. OMG! I pray to spare this country again from devastating flood. It was just last year September 2009 when we experienced heavy flooding and was told it only happened once in one hundred years. Oh please, spare us, not again, not this soon :(

Hostage Taking in Manila, Venus Raj in Miss Universe Pageant and Flood in Manila

Hostage taking started Monday morning when dismissed police officer Rolando Mendoza took hostage of 22 Chinese nationals from Hongkong and three Filipinos at the tourist bus at Quirino Grandstand. I feel for the family of hostage victims who were just here in the Philippines for a vacation but ended that tour not as pleasure but a very tragic event.

I wonder what Venus Raj feels right now. Too much pressure is now on her shoulder representing the country. Her heart is still mourning over death of her friend Binibining Pilipinas International Melody Gersbach. I guess she must get ready also for the possible question if she makes it to top 10. "How would you promote Philippines Tourism now that the nearby countries issued a travel ban/travel black to the Philippines." Good luck Venus. Please bring home the crown.

After a heavy rain last night, flooding came right away. While media men and the world focused on hostage taking event, I myself was surprised to see above-knee flood outside. Flooding is just an ordinary thing now in Manila. It rained so hard but Manilenos are now accustomed to this kind of situation. Oh life!

Typhoon Basyang

I stayed late last night to monitor the weather to check if my children will have class the next day. Obviously, the wind blew very hard and as expected, suspension of classes for all levels was declared. Just after the weather update was announced, power went out system-wide. It was really dark as the whole Metro had total blackout. I heard the howling sound of the wind and that made me stayed awake and monitor the weather instead. It was about past eleven that night. I half opened the window to at least have a little air since we have no enough ventilation inside the house due to power blackout, but as I opened it, strong wind blew right into my face. Typhoon Ondoy suddenly flashed back into my memory. I honestly was a bit scared with this fear that another strong typhoon will hit again the Metro. I looked for a radio and tuned into the latest update. Total blackout and no network signal, so I thought it could be another Ondoy. PAGASA forecast issued a warning signal number 2 to hit Manila, but it was stronger than what I have witnessed last night. Typhoon may not have damaged the Metro but the experience we had last year kept myself alert and prepared for worst scenario. My cellphone is still in no network coverage status as of this moment and I really don't how long will it be fixed. Network said, not until full power supply is served.
